When we are working, we are actually serving!
The Hebrew word for work is “Avoda” or “Avodah” (עָבַד),. It literally means work, worship and service.
In Genesis 2:15, the word “avoda” appears when God placed Adam in the Garden of Eden to “work” it. (Thus dispelling any false ideas that work is a punishment that only appeared after the fall of mankind.)
“Now the Lord God took the man, and He placed him in the Garden of Eden to work it and to guard it.”
Genesis 2:15
And also when Joshua declared that he and his household would serve the Lord. The word “serve” is implicit in the word “avoda”.
“but as for me and my household, we will serve Yahweh”
Joshua 24:15
So we can conclude that work, worship and service are all very integral to work.
