What will stop you from achieving your goal? Not leaving your land.
“Go out from your land and from your relatives, and from the house of your father,..”
Genesis 12:1
“to the land that I will show you.”
Genesis 12:1
In today’s context, it is akin to ‘leaving our comfort zone’. Abram had never done this before! He was to leave the familiarity that he had known all his life: his physical surroundings and the community he grew up in. There must have been an incentive for Abram to leave these current goodness to even better pastures, as we imagined him having to lug his entire household around. It leaves us to reasonably conclude that the “land” that God would show Abram could be something that Abram himself desired but may not have realised. And God was here, confirming his heart’s desire.
This is the land that God showed Abram…
“And Yahweh said to Abram after Lot had separated from him, “Now, lift up your eyes and look from the place where you are to the north, and to the south, and to the east and to the west, 15 for all the land which you see I will give to you, and to your descendants, forever. 16 I will make your descendants like the dust of the earth which, if anyone were able to count the dust of the earth, your descendants would be so counted. 17 Arise, go through the length of the land and through its breadth, for I will give it to you.””
Genesis 13: 14 – 17
God was not merely showing Abram how much He would bless Abram. What Godwas really doing was to let Abram see with his very own eyes the extent of his own hopes. God was revealing to Abram the desire of his own heart.
What you desire will never be wiped out from your heart. It could be hidden, set aside or buried, but it always remains. Dare to acknowledge what you want when God shows you the land He is bringing you to. As a result, it becomes not a land that He wants to give you, but to a land you desire to achieve – it is one and the same.
Acknowledge your dream and you will dare to go on a journey, leaving your current land (comfort zone) to reach the new land (your dream) God is showing you.
In doing so, you will need to let go of your past mindsets and values. Do not let difficulty and fear make you unsure of your destiny. And I use the word “destiny” because this is something you desire to achieve and will never change.
In this sense, whether you ultimately achieve your destiny is not entirely up to God, but up to you as well.
